Dior has launched very nice looking palettes for this summer. I chose 786 Terra, which has less golden and more “burnt” type of shades.
Let’s start from the look of this palette. Isn’t it gorgeous? Colours, pattern on the surface…So appealing. Of course, just because something is pretty, it doesn’t mean it’s great. Let’s see, whether it works as great as it looks;).
According to Dior description, shades are frosted taupe, sand rose, rose gold, copper and mauve brown. I would describe them a bit differently, but I’m not that good in shade description. Shades looks more burnt than just simply warm. I like that they look simple and complex at the same time. Dior 5 Couleur 786 Terra palette seems to have some kind of baked jelly formula or may be it’s just some other way of “cooking pigments” I don’t know about. Eyeshadows are very smooth and barely dusty. When I swatched this palette for the first time in store, it seemed sheer, but it’s not. And it’s not on my swatches. It goes on quite intense*, I’m sure you can use them wet to get even more intense color, but I’m not a fan of using eyeshadows wet on myself. If you want to create more sheer wash of color with this palette, you can use the lightest shade all over the lid and then use other shades on top of it. It creates different effect on eyes.
*Note: I apply main colors all over the lid with an applicator and blend with a brush afterwards,
Here are swatches. It might look not very exciting on those photos, but wait for the eye look.
Is blending easy? It is. But I would be a bit careful with the darkest shade. It blends easily with other shades. I just had to spend a bit more time to blend it nicely into the skin without patchiness. I used Terra over eyeshadow base in my looks, no setting it, no other eyeshadows, except a tiny bit of Urban Decay Sellout right in the inner corner.
How is wear time? It didn’t crease or fade on me. I did use eyeshadow base under it as usual.
I think this particular photo really shows the complexity of shades, when they are on eyes. Pluminess in brown, pink in taupe. Oh, I think it’s a really lovely palette. Easy to wear shades but with a twist.
