Hi, to fellow perfume lovers, friends and other classmates that are simply here because they have been assigned to comment on my post… I doubt that my passion for perfumes hasn’t been made obvious enough through the title as well as the LARGE pictures I like to include in my posts. I guess that gives me leeway to skip the introductory part of this blog!
I’ve chosen to review a perfume that was a gift that my brother got for me. The fact that it was a perfume he got for me makes it special enough but its storyline makes me rather emotional. It was the night before I was flying out of the country and it also happened to be the day of an Indian festival that commemorates the bond between a brother and sister. (It’s called Raksha Bandhan, for those that may be curious) One of the rituals is gifting the sister with anything that is thoughtful. ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ by the one and only, KILIAN Paris, was the gift that carried with it immense love and meaning. The behind the scenes from this day include a heated argument between my brother and I that was settled by the gift-giving nature of this festival. Perhaps I see this perfume to have resolving qualities like none other, for this reason.
Now that the story is out there, let me move on with the review of the actual scent. GGGB, like every other KILIAN perfume follows the customary look: the beautiful gold lid with a ‘K’ on top along with the perfume name written in a cursive font in front.
This perfume is an “uninhibited whirlwind of flowers” with top notes of Osmanthus, Jasmine and May Rose. It is exactly how you would imagine an explosion of three sirens to smell like. The middle and base notes of amber, narcissus and cedar tie in the scent together making it the perfect combination of innocent but voluptuous. At first scent, sprayed on skin, opens up as a very green scent. It smells as though a flower has been freshly plucked and the stem bleeds releasing this fresh green scent. It is pretty strong at the beginning but dies down in just a couple seconds bringing in the real scents of the beautiful florals. The top note of jasmine begin to appear as a rich white floral-y fragrance. You would also start to pick up on the Indian Tuberose, a middle note, along with some of the May Rose scent and a BIG heaping dose of Osmanthus. This addition of Osmanthus as the heavy ingredient for this perfume is what adds to the sort of fruity vibe despite there being no real fruits in this perfume. The almost edible scent of apricot, honey and peaches? I would classify GGGB as a very feminine, unique, natural, pure and almost innocent scent… if that makes sense? Despite so, it is a very “statement-making” fragrance.
The cedar in the base notes is a very light cedar, unlike your standard “in-your-face” type of cedar and amber scents that usually take over the fruity and florals. These two base notes are NOT overbearing; they simply add complexity and depth to the scent. These notes are the reason you WILL get noticed if you choose to wear GGGB by Kilian! They add the bold element in the fragrance whilst the florals bring out the freshness. It has an “out-of-the-shower” vibe but it isn’t soapy because the notes of amber are at the base that do not step over the main ingredients.
One thing to note with this fragrance in particular is that the scent does linger on for quite a bit so one must be a floral-scent lover to enjoy it. As you get deep into the dry-down of the fragrance (I’ve been sniffing it for about 6 minutes now as a jot down my notes for the review), the greenness of the scent doesn’t fade away!
