I was rummaging around my make-up drawers the other day to find one of my go to products and I realised I have never talked about it on here. It's one of those skincare products that everyone seems to talk about, especially in winter it's the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. This product has been around for forever. I bet your granny had this in her make up bag and it is still known as a “cult classic” in the skincare world, it’s claimed to be a miracle solution for all sorts of skin concerns. But it still worth the money and hype and is there a better option out there? I think it's about time I actually chatted about this product isn't it.

I’m sure many of you have heard of the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, but if you haven’t, it’s been a beauty staple since the 1930s! Yes, I said the 30's there are not many products out there that we all reach for that has existed and is relatively unchanged since the 30 is there? But this is one.
It a real skincare multitasker, It can be used for a wide variety of issues, whether you’re dealing with chapped lips, dry skin, rough cuticles, or even minor skin irritations. I’ve been using it myself for years.
Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream is a versatile, soothing balm that was originally created as a skin protectant. It’s known for its intense moisture, designed to calm, soothe, and heal rough or irritated skin. While it’s referred to as a “cream,” it’s not a cream, its more of a thick, balm-like consistency. It has a very unique texture and its range of uses make it a go-to for anyone looking to nourish and protect their skin.
We all know I love a bit of history. Elizabeth Arden, born Florence Nightingale Graham, was a pioneer in the beauty industry and a true visionary. She launched her brand in the 1930s with a mission to bring luxury skincare to women around the world. The Eight Hour Cream quickly became one of her most iconic products, often praised as her “miracle balm.” She was a true inspiration to many of the big brands we all know and love to this day. She created a storm in the beauty industry with her unquiet approach to women's skincare favouring good quality ingredients.
This cream claims to soothe and heal the skin within eight hours, which is of course where the name comes from. Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream isn’t just for moisturising. It also claims to help protect and heal skin irritations, soothe windburn and sunburn, and even give a glossy sheen to the lips and cheeks.
The Eight Hour Cream has a unique formula that includes:
These ingredients work together to create a hydrating barrier that helps keep the skin feeling soft and supple, even in harsh weather.
There is no other product like this one. That I can say in all certainly. What really sets the Eight Hour apart is its versatility and multi-use capability. It’s not just a moisturiser, it’s a balm, a protectant, a gloss, and a skin soother all in one. Plus, the unique formula feels luxurious on the skin and absorbs nicely without being overly greasy.
I have been using this on and off over the years. I will be completely honest. When aren't I? when I first bought this. I remember I was about to get on a flight to the us and my lips were awfully chapped and I was worried about the flight causing more damage and I was chatting to one of the beauty girls and she recommended this and she worked for a rival company. So i knew it must be worth it.
I remember opening the tube and the frist thing that hit me was the smell it has a really unquiet smell. Its very herbal and medical in scent and I am not here for that. I really dislike the scent it takes a lot to get used to. But I remember using it on my lips and I have never seen such an improvement in them before. At the end of the 10 hour flight they had come on leaps and bounds.
The texture is really thick and it takes some rubbing in but it hydrates like nothing else. I wouldn't use it on my face day to day but if i get windburn or sunburn I do use this instead of aftersun and it heals the skin faster than any after sun. It does have a bit of a stickiness to it. It works to soothe roughness on the skin. I also use it sometimes as a hand cream if my hands are in a bad way.
This can not be used under makeup. This is a different type of product. But I have friends who use it for a little bit of shine on their lips or cheeks on a night out to highlight. Not my style but they always look good. It is my favourite for chapped skin.
I like to use the Eight Hour balm on areas that need extra love. It’s perfect for:
While it’s generally safe for all skin types, it’s quite rich. If you have oily skin, you might want to use it sparingly. I wouldn't be using this one any type of oily skin on your face. I am have combination and I wouldn't normally use this on my face.
There really isn't another product that is this effective for skin irritation that I have found. Yes, you have to put up with the smell but the product is that effective I look past that. That's how good it is.
For me, it does! It’s an amazing solution for when my skin feels dry, chapped, or irritated. The cream has a unique ability to lock in moisture and restore that plump, healthy feel to the skin.
If you’re using it to soothe dry lip or cuticles, you’ll notice an immediate difference like i did on the flight I would hope. For more intense hydration, like on cracked heels or windburned cheeks, you’ll see noticeable improvement within a few hours.
While Vaseline and other balms offer some similar benefits and some ingredients in common, the formula and added ingredients like Vitamin E make it feel more luxurious and it just works so I will always opt to have one in my kit.
For 50ml on their own site it is £31 but amazon always have deals and it is currently on sale for around £14 always worth looking for sales one this. I have never paid full price on this product.
Yes, It has a premium price tag, but considering the versatility and effectiveness, it’s worth it for anyone who loves skincare. It might retail at around £29, but you can often find it at a discount. So i think it is.
Yes there are but cheaper alternatives, like as petroleum jelly just don’t offer the same level of nourishment or luxurious feel and as quick results.
In my opinion, definitely, yes! The Elizabeth Arden Cream lives up to its cult classic status. It has been a staple in my makeup bag for years. It’s incredibly versatile, effective, and feels like a little bit of classic luxury in a tube.
Whether you’re dealing with chapped lips, rough cuticles, or dry elbows, this cream is a must-have. It’s earned its place as one of my all-time favourites for its ability to work its magic on all sorts of skin concerns.
I have been been doing reviews of the products for years and I reach for this time and time again and I’d definitely recommend giving the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream a try, especially if you’re looking for an all-in-one solution for dryness, irritation, and more. It’s a luxurious addition to any skincare routine, and it’s a product that I always make sure to have on hand.
I would have it in my collection just for redness and minor skin irritations let alone what it does to roughness and peeling skin. It is super easy to apply. I have even used it on my hubby's dry cracked hands and it improved them within a few hours. For goodness sake I have dabbed it on a scraped knee from mountain biking and it has helped them heal. It is a skincare classic for a reason and one you should have in your bathroom cabinet. I would say if you do not like really thick balms you might want to swap this for Elizabeth Arden miracle oil instead. You need to like thick balms to love this eight hour® cream. But if you do you will be in heaven with this.
