As far as an epic love affairs go, my relationship with a long-lasting foundation is often unreciprocated. Living in the tropics with a hot and humid weather all year round, it is difficult to find a foundation that is absolutely long-lasting; one that lives up to its claim.

Humbly brag aside, I was definitely sceptical about Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation much hyped-about longevity. In fact, a 24-hour wear claim. Sounds too lofty to be true? There was only one way to find out: I decided to give the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation a try, price tag be damned.
~~~
While my skin woes ranged from minor pigmentation caused by old acne scars and a sometimes dull complexion due to a lack of hydration or a lack of sleep, my biggest concern was actually my rosacea. My skin, especially my cheek area tends to flush in redness easily especially during the hot summer season.
The Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation was an ideal choice sold to me, as it provides a flawless medium to full coverage for a look that stays vibrant and fresh whether it’s a workday, a workout or a weekend. It covers up my imperfections, all in a relatively lightweight and refreshing formulate. It took one try for me to conclude that my existing Etude House Double Lasting Foundation is nowhere near to being a dupe for the Estée Lauder Double WearStay In Place Foundation, a misconception that everyone perceives in Korean Makeup.
Here’s where we’ve got to address a common question: can this foundation really last 24 hours? I push the limits of this foundation by going through a day packed with activities and even a workout.
From the first time I applied it, I fell in love with it. It has a super full coverage. It looks flawless but not like skin. You can tell that someone is wearing foundation. I think applying it in very thin layers and not more than 1-2 layers help to achieve that flawless mattifying look.
I prefer applying it with a damp beauty sponge on a well moisturized and primed skin. I noticed that I need a much smaller amount of product than when working with most other foundations I’ve tried. With just one very thin layer and a damp sponge, I can easily get high-medium or light-high coverage. I set it very lightly with a bit of a setting powder.
In the first 6 hours of wearing it, it didn’t “melt” off through heat and humidity. I don’t need any touch-ups during the entire day, not even on my T-zone after Zumba lesson (12 hours). I can do a 30-minute full on cardio workout wearing this foundation, and it doesn’t budge.
I was fairly happy with how everything held up. As you can see, my skin got a little greasy in the T-zone, my nose showed a bit more dryness, and I definitely had more redness than when I hit the pillow-but the foundation didn’t rub off completely. The foundation held up a lot better than my usual do after 12 hours, and the skin is still looking pretty polished here, with a sheen at some point.
Yes, it’s worth the splurge - ONLY if you are looking for a long lasting foundation with a full coverage. It sits on the skin really well and does not budge on my combination skin for at least 12 hours. Honestly, it looks much better on my face at the end of the day than most other foundations look in 4-5 hours. In fact, it actually looks BETTER as the day wears on and it melts into your face. I definitely found it to live up to its claims of being a long-wearing flawless foundation through heat and humidity.
Highly recommend the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation for oily to combination skin, I always reach for this foundation when my skin needs coverage for special events or on extremely long days. I knew by the end of the day, I’ll look the same as I first apply it because it controls oily exceptionally well.
When it comes to shades selection, Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation comes in 36 colours and provides a good variety of undertones (warm, neutral and cool). I’m wearing the shade 2W1. For your reference, I’m an NC 20 (MAC), #301 (Moonshot) and #Sand (Etude House) when it comes to liquid foundation shades.
Even though it might be one of the best long-lasting foundations I have ever come across, I do believe that the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation does not get into everyone good books - you either love it or hate it but I think it is fair to say that this depends on an individual’s preference as listed below.
If you aren’t a fan of full coverage or have dry skin, don’t waste your time. Although it does provide full coverage, it will emphasize fine-lines (refer to the video blow), especially under the eyes. You have to prep your skin well underneath otherwise I think it clings on to any dry patches you might have. If this one is too dry for you, try the Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Foundation which is still medium coverage but much easier to work with (Review Coming Soon).
I HATE the packaging, I wish there was a pump included. Pouring it out is a pain as there are times when there is too much wastage if you are not careful. For this price point, I would expect it to come with a pump. A glass bottle packaging spells crisis to me especially if I drop it accidentally on the floor.
I don’t recommend wearing it every day, because it does feel heavy at the end of the day for everyday use. It has the tendency to break out. It is extremely important to double cleanse as the foundation tends to settle into the skin. Make sure you use an oil-based cleanser to remove this foundation. When working with the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation, do work on one area of your face at a time. This foundation dries quickly so if you smear it all over your whole face and try to blend it, it would not apply well. Building a new layer over a dry layer tends to create splotches/dragging if you are not careful.
The pictures really speak for themselves. Although nothing stayed completely intact for 24 hours, I’d put money on all of the products making it through a gruelling workday or a quick swim. The staying power of this is not overhyped at all, it’s fantastic and lasts all day long. Not just an 8 hour work day, it can stay looking beautiful well over 12 hours and beyond.
The Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation is available at SGD$68 (30ml) - I have to admit, I do feel the pinch as this is my first time investing in a bottle of high-end foundation. Given that I have decided to use this foundation only for special occasion, I would not recommend this to those who are new to makeup, people with dry skin or anyone looking for a long-lasting foundation for a daily use. I would recommend getting a sample before committing to it.
As of now, the search for the perfect foundation shall continue.
