Hey Kevin,The other sauce was just soy sauce, not mam nem. No mam nem on the table. And it's wild betel leaf that was in the grilled dish. Betel leaf being a different scientific name and is the kind that's chewed with betel nut and lime.

I heard you got an SLR now? Got rid of your Fuji? Your photos look great! How do you compare the 2 cameras? Worth carrying the bulky slr?

I'll be sure to make the updates when I get home tonight.Fiona: Thanks! Actually, I've always had a DSLR, but I just recently got a lens that allows me to use it to its full potential in a restaurant setting. I still do carry my Fuji around though; since it has a wider lens, it's useful for decor shots and group photos, and allows me to record voice and video. The DSLR has vastly superior image quality (made glaringly apparent at Providence last week), so I'll likely be carrying both around for the time being.

oh my. kevin, eating at a restaurant that costs less than a hundred per person? ::gasp:: i kid, i kid. it's great that you're open to erm, more regional versions of Vietnamese food. i am simply amazed by how you word things that you didn't like! This is one of my favorite beer food restaurant in Little Saigon but it looks like you guys did not have any of my favorite dishes while you were there. They have the best Fish Salad (Goi Ca) anywhere. It is made with raw fish filet, lotus root (ngo sen), pickled green (dua chua), shredded carrots, lettuce, peanuts topping and served with soy sauce and Wasabi. I also like their cooked organs and blood sausage(Long Heo Binh Dan and Huyet mo hanh but ask for the doi truong and not the small stuff). I also like the Tiet Canh Vit better than Tiet Canh De. The best part of the restaurant is the frozen ice beer glass. :)
